The Hearth
The Hearth is an in-person gathering held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 5:30 PM at the Harrisburg Quake Meeting House. These gatherings lean into the circle way practice which makes space for reflection, sharing, deep listening, and storytelling. The Hearth meets in the library on the 1st floor of the Quaker Meeting House around an actual hearth.
The hearth is often the center of a home. It is where friends, family, and chosen family gather to reflect, tell stories, and tend to one another. It provides warmth and welcomes family members and guests to relax and let down for a time. It is a place of welcome, hospitality, and connection.
The Hearth of The Circle Hbg is this type of space and gathering. It is a place of welcome and belonging, where those gathered are invited to arrive honestly and without judgement. Come as you are and gather at The Hearth.
Saints & Sages Series
This year (2026-2027), The Hearth will explore Saints & Sages. These are individuals who have challenged the status quo and made a difference in other’s lives. They may be individuals who the Christian church considers an actual saint or they may be individuals who do not claim any religious traditions and yet got into good trouble. We will consider great saints and sages such as Rumi (a 13th century Sufi Muslim), Mr. Rogers (yes, Daniel Tiger’s friend), Julian of Norwich (a 14th century Catholic anchoress known for her visions & cat), Marsha P. Johnson (of the Stonewall riots), and Rabbi Regina Jonas (the first woman to be ordained a rabbi & later murdered in Auschwitz).
Together, we will consider these saints and sages’ lives and teachings, engage in creative spiritual practices, make space for shared reflection, and hopefully allow ourselves to be inspired as we tend to our spirits through their wisdom.
